This summer’s Reorg Open promises to be a jiu-jitsu competition like no other, with an opportunity for competitors of all ability and disability levels to fight for medals, while at the same time supporting a great cause.
The tournament is taking place on August 20th in Wolverhampton and promises to be a great day. Although it is Reorg’s first BJJ tournament, we are putting it on with the expert help of none other than jiu-jitsu royalty and great friend Braulio Estima.
We have a full range of categories, for both children and adults, and no matter how long you have been doing jiu-jitsu, or whatever you physical abilities, there is a place for you. Registration is open until August 14th, but we are urging people to sign up as soon as possible, as there is a super-discounted rate available until 15th May.
Reorg trustee Mark Ormrod was one of the first to sign up. “It’s going be insane,” he said. “It’s my first ever comp. I never started BJJ with thoughts of competing – I’ve just loved the journey and how much value it brings to my life. But I can’t pass up this opportunity, so I’m going to get stuck in – I can’t wait.”
All profits from the competition go towards the Reorg mission. So that means supporting former and serving members of the Armed Forces and Emergency Services to combat physical and mental health problems by getting themselves to a gym and finding a way to push through their problems.
We of course want it to be a tough competition, but everyone taking part will not just be fighting for themselves, they’ll be helping a cause. So just by signing up to compete, or coming along to support others, you are already winning.

Speaking of prizes, the medals given out on the day will be rather special, as Reorg founder Sam Sheriff says. “The medal itself is the Reorg logo, designed by none other than Warpaint and our friend and Reorg Trustee Tom Hardy. The logo is the pineapple skull that represents our community. The pineapple signifies health and looking after yourself, while the skull represents our mortality –reminding us what happens if we don’t take care of ourselves.”
Anyone wanting to sign up can go straight to the Smoothcomp page to register, and follow our new Reorg Open Instagram page for regular updates. This will be the first of many tournaments. But while there will be others, there will never be another first time. So please just sign up – we promise you won’t regret it.
