our mission
It’s pretty simple. To support the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of military and emergency services personnel, using Jiu Jitsu as a gateway to reignite their confidence, purpose and sense of camaraderie.
NEW MILESTONE:
200
JIU JITSU ACADEMIES!
A huge thank you to all of our supporters throughout the years, we could have achieved this without you.
TURN DOWN THE NOISE
When an hour on the mat is a challenge, everything else feels easy.
BEING A REAL LIFE SUPERHERO ISN’T FOREVER.
There’s no denying that the work of the military and emergency services personnel can be traumatic, often leaving people with both physical and psychological scars.

COMMUNITY SPORTS ARE THE ANTIDOTE
A new survey of over 3,000 veterans and serving personnel, carried out by NHS England, found that around 60% of those who took part, said they found it difficult to ask for help for mental health issues. We want our members to not be afraid to say if they are struggling to transition into civilian life, whether it’s getting back into shape or reinvigorating their sense of purpose.
Voluntary resignations from the police service in England and Wales have increased by 72% between 2021 and 2022. Embarking on a new challenge within a safe and supportive environment helps to break down the barriers of society, including pressure from loved ones who may not fully understand.

The study also shows that after training, members feel on average 365% more positive, fulfilled, and ready to take on the day, with a 72.4% improvement in sleep. Physical, social and emotional well being represent the three pillars of our philosophy, all the while showing respect, both towards oneself and other community members.
There’s nothing quite like blowing off steam, mentally and physically, and having a laugh together doing so.
Together, we can achieve our goals and shape a future with purpose.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Our Founder, Sam Sheriff, served 22 years as a Royal Marines Commando and during this time, founded Royal Marines Jiu Jitsu and became the very first serving BJJ Black Belt. As a result, BJJ grew to become the fastest-growing and most popular sport in the Royal Marines.
Today, Sam continues to work with his team to support the cause, which has expanded rapidly throughout the UK to include a community of supporters, coaches and partnering gyms.
WHY BJJ?
Our members like to push themselves and the rewards speak loudly. It can take just 60 days to create a new, healthy habit, one that can become empowering for life.
Training in a supportive group dynamic alongside like-minded people promotes determination and confidence.
Learning new skills and training methods keep our members physically fit and mentally agile, while the social and emotional benefits, including new friendships, are unparalleled.
Working towards the same outcome or workout together instills camaraderie among teammates, something that can be carried into the civilian world, at work or at home.
Our members are given opportunities to progress and develop through gradings or new goal posts, and this reignites a sense of purpose, both on and off the mat.
Studies have shown that BJJ promotes growth and creates a healthy and acceptable outlet to build upon combative identity. We encourage taking on a new challenge.
It can take just 60 days to form a healthy habit. Our programme is built to track our members’ progress and guide them to achieve their goals way past the 60-day mark.
